2010 TRENDS
Wedding Gowns & Accessories - One-shoulder style dresses will be a favorite. You will see dresses with sleeves and a strap dress is going to popular. Over the top details such as, beading, embroidery, large flowers and bows, gold and silver details, (allover embellishments) and ruffles from the waist down will be big in 2010. Birdcage veils have made a comeback. Wearing one allows you to have some dramatic glamor, but is a more fun look and less hassling than a long traditional veil as well as less costly. Bridesmaids dresses no longer need to match not only in style, but also in color. Brides are using color hues as opposed to everyone being in one color. Shoes and accessories - the bolder is better motto runs strong. Adding color by accenting with jewelry and shoes is highly recommended. Oversized gemstones, glistening sequins and large pearls can make an impressive statement.
Engagement Rings - Expect colored gemstones, diamonds the entire way around the band, riased settings, twisted bands, vintage looking, and resetting parents and grandparents stones into new settings.
Flowers, Decor & Trends - Going bck to basics. The days of overspending are gone! Spending an extra few days on your honeymoon is in! Couples are focusing more on the details and the foundation of the event, not the grandeur of the evening. The focus will be on creating memories, spending more on photography options instead of abundant floral arrangements and bouquets. Photo booths apapeared in 2009 and will be very large in 2010. Smaller guest lists and making the event more intimate is becoming important. Couples are choosing to omit parent's business acquaintances and friends and focusing on personal touches. Getting married at home has become a favorite. Brides and grooms are deciding to make the event more personal. Candlelight is the simplest and least expensive way to make your reception have a "wow" factor. Candlelight adds romance and sets the mood for the evening. Fun activities, such as a tara card reader, magicians and traveling musicians are definitely a way to impress your guests. Again, omitting over the top floral arrangements and putting more money to memorable events will be seen more often. The days of matching centerpieces on every table are gone. Couples are wanting more fun and less time for their guests standing around. Pictures are being taken in advance of the wedding to permit more bang for your buck at the reception. Couples are showing up within one hour of the wedding. The bride and groom seeing each other before the wedding is no longer taboo. Site on ceremonies are being offered by more venues. This option saves guests time as well as traveling expenses. Parents are now being included at the bridal table. Brides and grooms wish to honor their parents throughout the evening.
Cakes - Tall cakes - 5 - 7 layers will be most popular with the size of each layer being small. Rolled fondant is out, butter cream icing is taking presidence. Brides have decided why pay more for fondant icing when it isn't as tasty as butter cream icing. Fillings such as raspberry and strawberry are still a favorite.
Dinners - The time of the event is definitely being taken into consideration as to what will be on the menu. Weddings at home certainly permit a more casual and cost conscience menu. Appetizers are goingt jo be limited and more focus put on a dessert station.
Drinks - Open bars will always be found at receptions however, there are alternatives to the costly open bar. Serving beer, wine, a signature drink and a fountain with either champagne or a vodka or rum punch is more than acceptable. These options will also cut the cost on having numerous bartenders.
Going Green - Growing flowers for centerpieces or bouquets. Recycling family gowns to create a "one-of-a-kind" wedding dress. Edible wedding favors. Using potted plants for centerpieces; tulips in the spring, mums in the fall. You can then give them to guests or plant them at your new home and enjoy them for years to come.
Colors - Black is the favored color again. Expect to see black as the main color or the accent. Bright colors will be seen in summer, but hues of whatever color is chosen will be the new trend.
