2008 TRENDS
Reception Decor - look for eclectic style. Old with new. Metallics (gold, silver, copper, gray & platinum) will be the accent colors. Rhinstones will be placed on anything from centerpieces to pew bows to add shimmer. White and ivory will now be the background colors instead of the focal colors, bold colors are taking their place. Square tables and banquet tables (to create a dining room table look) pushed together are going to be a favorite.
Colors - purple - all shades of purple for the entire year is projected to be the most popular - from lilac to eggplant. Yellow was seen on all of the fashion runways repeatedly for spring along with coral and lavender. Summer colors are going to be sage, turquoise, aqua, blue and mauve. Fall predictions are emerald, burgundy and any jewel tone colors. Black is almost as popular as purple for 2008. All colors are going to have an emphasis on shiny metallic materials.
Wedding Dresses - last year's focus was on the back of the bridal gown, this year it is the waist. Designers are emphasizing the waist by using nipped in bodices and wide belts. Also contrasting color sashes which were also popular in 2007 are back in 2008. Silver wedding gowns for the modern bride are going to be an option and expected to be quite popular.
Invitations - letterpress invitations with the cutting back of too many inserts will be favored. Also, handmade invitations are almost taking over ordered invitations because engagements are generally 12 - 18 months giving the bride time to design and create their invites. (Very affordable letterpress can be found at Costco.)
Bouquets - getting away from the traditional roses and calla lilies and using color in the bride's bouquet to coordinate with the attendants. Attendants bouquets in a variety of flowers and colors, not focused on one specific color.
Cakes - oversized jewels and sashes to mimic the bride's dress will now be appearing on cakes. Cascading cupcakes of different flavors (carried over from 2006) and ice cream cakes make their debut at wedding receptions.
Locations - garden patios and warehouses are expected to be the most requested sites. The Greek atmosphere with roman columns, sheer fabrics and fountains are making their way to the U.S.
Misc. - bridal parties are expected to smaller than we have seen in the last decade as well as the amount of guests being invited. Couples are now inviting fewer people (getting away from inviting parents friends and focusing on their own friends) in the attempt to add more "wow" factors to their menus, favors and receptions.
